What an end to the season
(08.04.08)
...and we don't just mean the weather!
LEAGUE
In the
EHL Women’s South Division, congratulations to
Firebrands who saved their place in the EHL with a 5-2 win
at Woking. Nia Hughes' 63rd minute goal proved crucial as it gave a 3 goal margin – rivals
Horsham could only beat
Sevenoaks 3-1 and
Firebrands stay up by virtue of a single goal goal difference.
In the EHL
Men’s South Division,
Robinsons lost at home to
Holcombe to finish in the play-off place and now play
Kingston-upon-Hull (10th in
Men’s North Division) twice next weekend in
Chelmsford. Defeat over two legs next weekend will see
Robinsons return to the W
est of England and South Wales Hockey League, victory will put them in the Pplay-offs with the five regional league winners (including
Cardiff and
UWIC from the West) – a round robin format played over five dates.
In the
West Women’s League on Saturday, table toppers
Lansdown drew 0-0 with second placed
Team Bath Buccaneers to win the League and go into the EHL Play-offs with the other four regional league winners and either
Horsham or
Sheffield Hallam (who Play-off next weekend). Matches will be played on 20 April, 27 April (one at home and one away) and over the weekend 3-5 May at one venue (University of the West of England, Bristol).
Congratulations to all Clubs who secured promotion last weekend and commiserations to any who have been relegated.
EH NATIONAL KNOCK-OUT COMPETITIONS
It was a disappointing day for all but one of our Clubs yesterday in National competitions.
Congratulations to
Yeovil & Sherborne U15’s who beat
Eastbourne 2-0 in the Quarter-final of the
Boys U15 Plate. They now face a Semi-final trip to
Cannock on 27 April.
In the
Boys U18 Plate,
Yate’s trip to
Havant fell victim to the SNOW – if you want to see the pitch conditions have a look at the Havant HC website! The match now has to be played by next Sunday.
All of our other Clubs finished disappointed as their Cup runs ended.
In the
Men’s Veterans Cup Semi-Final,
Plymouth Marjon lost 6-0 at
Ipswich, whilst in the
Men’s Veterans Plate Semi-final,
Jersey lost 3-2 at
Ben Rhydding.
In the
Boys U15 Cup Quarter-final,
Taunton Vale were beaten 6-4 at
Canterbury and there was also disappointment for
Team Bath Buccaneers who lost 4-2 at
Beeston in the
Boys U18 Cup Quarter-final.
In the
Girls U15 Cup Quarter-final,
Isca Dragons lost 3-2 at home to
Canterbury having switched the venue to Tiverton when their Exeter pitch was covered in 8cm of snow during heavy snowfall less than two hours before the start. On the other side of Exeter, a slightly later start time meant the snow had cleared for
Exe's Girls U18 Cup Quarter–final tie with
Harleston Magpies, won 4-3 by the visitors.
In the
Girls U18 Plate Quarter-final,
Team Bath Buccaneers lost 13-0 against
Trojans.
Despite the disappointments, well done to all Clubs for progressing so far in these competitions.
