England Hockey has recently recruited Development Officers to join the Development Team. These posts have been created as many of the Hockey Development Officer positions that had been government funded through the Active Sports programme (over the last seven years) and employed directly through the County Sports Partnerships, ceased to exist in 2007.
In the West we have two new Development Officer positions with Barbara Reynolds covering Devon, Cornwall & Somerset and Sheriden Gyde and Clive Nelson job-sharing the Gloucestershire, Avon, Dorset & Wiltshire area - all working with County Hockey Associations and County Sports Partnerships.
Herefordshire (along with Worcestershire) is looked after by Nisar Chaudhry who is based with our colleagues in the Midlands.
These Development Officers bring a wealth of experience to the England Development Team and their work will be specifically focused on 4 key areas of work, integral to the national hockey strategy ‘Uniting the Hockey Family’:
1. To work with the County Hockey Associations and County Sports Partnerships to ensure:
- There is a clear development plan for every county that sets out how they are delivering Uniting the Hockey Family and the Single System.
- There is a hockey development group at County level that is able to drive this work.
2. To work with County Hockey Associations to put in place Junior Development Centres (JDC’s) and Junior Academy Centres (JAC’s) as part of the Single System implementation plan.
3. To provide direct support to Clubs to achieve accreditation and link those Clubs with a School Sports Partnership.
4. As part of the Regional Coach Development Programme, County Development Plans and Club School Link plans, to organise or ensure delivery of:
- Level 1 coaching courses (and identify potential Level 2 & 3 candidates).
- In-service coach training (coaching workshops).
- Coaching for teachers courses.
- Leadership courses (to include the Young Umpire Award).
