Regional Single System Implementation | 5 June 2008

The Single System for Hockey on a Regional level is now up and running. West Hockey gratefully acknowledges the contribution made to this progress by the County Associations, clubs, coaches and organisers in the West Region.

Age groups:
U15 | those born in or after 1994
U16 | those born in 1993
U18 | those born in 1992 and 1991.

> Junior Regional Performance Centres (JRPCs)
Two JRPCs have been initiated, one at Exeter and one in Bristol which will provide performance level coaching and competition preparation in the region, with the opportunities for players to progress to national recognition through tiered competition.

These Performance Centres are designed to be as accessible as possible to players from across the region in all the age groups from U15 to U18. For the 2008 season two age groups are being organized – U16s & U18s. A key aim of the Single System is to ensure that players will follow a national coaching and assessment pathway. This will be achieved through the close liaison with England Hockey’s centrally contracted coaches; to date West Hockey has held three days of assessment for the U15s, U16s and U18s with the following players having been selected so far to attend the JRPC, with a further assessment sessions scheduled for 29 June.

Regional Junior Performance Centres 2008

West Hockey Association (as part of the England Hockey Single System) is establishing Regional Junior Performance Centres (JRPC’s) from June 2008. These Centres will be based in Exeter and Bristol and will provide performance coaching and competition for selected U15 & U17 players, replacing the existing system of trials and squads.

West Assessment Days for the JRPC’s in 2008 will be:

> Wednesday 9 April | U15 Boys & Girls > Millfield
> Thursday 10 April  | U17 Boys & Girls > Millfield

What about U14 Boys & Girls in 2008?

At U14 level, 20 girls and 20 boys are being selected from each region to attend a High Performance Assessment Camp (HiPAC), which will be run by England Hockey in Summer 2008.

West Assessment Day for this HiPAC will be:

> Tuesday 8 April | U14 Boys & Girls > Millfield

PLEASE NOTE – There is no Regional Tournament for
U14 Boys in 2008

This year invitations to these Assessment Days will be offered to players identified as having the necessary talent/potential by West Assessors at West County Tournaments and by nominations from County Coaches/Assessors.

All invited players will receive confirmation and details of relevant Assessment Days in due course.
