The VRQ Level Two Coach Award is the qualification for those who wish to coach the techniques of the game at a level beyond the introductory level and apply them to tactical play and the coaching of teams. The course is only suitable for those with experience of coaching hockey.
it is possible to upgrade to a Level Two coach in one of three ways:
1. Attend the full Level Two course
2. Apply to do the Fast Track Level Two – by proving you have adequate experience
3. Apply to do Level Two by Accredited Prior
Experiential Learning (APEL)
Now, any coach who was accredited as a Level One coach prior to
1 April 2005 and who now wants to either coach independently or lead a team of coaches can apply to be fast tracked to Level Two.
Fast Track Level Two
Candidates will need to have attended a current Core Skills Workshop, have attended a Safeguarding & Protecting Children Workshop and have a First Aid qualification. Candidates will be required to complete approximately 3 hours of homework prior to attending a 6 hour theory/portfolio building module.
The cost to Fast Track is £250, which includes the portfolio, resources, attendance at Fast Track Day (theory modules & portfolio building) and two assessments. Prior to attendance the candidate will have 3 hours of preparation work to complete.
Any coach who was accredited as a Level One Coach prior to 1 April 2005 can submit an application to complete the Level Two Coach Award via the Fast Track route. Candidates who have completed a Level One Course since that date, who have received an outstanding report from their Assessor and who meet all the required criteria and skills sets, can submit an application to be considered for Fast Track by the Regional Coaching Group. Each application will be considered on an individual basis and be signed off by the Regional Coaching Group.
The West Fast Track Day will be held at Taunton Vale Sports Club on Sunday 8 March 2009 from 10am>5pm.
Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) Level Two
Candidates will undertake a summative assessment prior to acceptance on this route. If the assessment meets the required competency, candidates will complete the portfolio without supervision/guidance prior to a second assessment.
The cost to complete via APEL is £225.00.
Whichever upgrade route is followed, to achieve the Level Two award every coach needs to complete:
1. A full portfolio of tasks
2. A successful assessment with adults
3. A successful assessment with children
